We have had another busy and exciting week in Reception, with lots of fantastic learning taking place!

In Maths, we have been developing our skills in sorting, matching and comparing. The children have enjoyed looking carefully at different objects, spotting similarities and differences and explaining how they could sort them into groups.

Our Story of the Week has been Peace at Last. We have really enjoyed sharing the story together and exploring some new vocabulary, including snore, pretend and leaky. The children have been brilliant at talking about what these words mean and using them when discussing the story.

As part of our Autumn topic, we have been noticing the changes happening around us. We created some beautiful Autumn stained-glass leaves, thinking carefully about the different colours we can see during this time of year.

In Literacy, we have been talking all about our families. We discussed how every family is special and how families can be the same in some ways and different in others. The children loved sharing their own experiences and talking about the people who are important to them.

In Phonics, the children have now been split into smaller groups with Mrs Hanson, Miss Cockayne and Miss Malin. This allows us to make sure that phonics teaching is closely matched to what each child needs. Some children are continuing to learn new sounds, while others are spending some time recapping and consolidating previously taught sounds to help build their confidence and ensure these are secure before moving on.

Below, you will find links to the sounds being covered by each group. Children will also come home with the relevant letters/sounds to practise at home. A little regular practice at home will really help to reinforce the learning we are doing in school.

During PSED, we explored friendship and discussed what makes somebody a good friend. We thought about kindness, sharing, helping others and how our actions can make our friends feel.

In RE, we have been learning about the Christian belief that God created the world. We talked about some of our favourite things in the world and shared lots of lovely ideas about the things in nature that we appreciate.

Finally, during Nature School, we investigated the question: “What can trees tell us about Autumn?” We explored the outdoor environment, looking closely at the trees and noticing the signs that tell us the seasons are beginning to change.
