What a lovely week we have had in Reception! We have been busy learning, talking, exploring and getting to know one another even more. Here is a little look at some of the things we have been learning this week.

Phonics

In Phonics this week, we have been learning the sounds and letters i, n, p, g and o. The children have been practising recognising the sounds, saying them correctly and forming the letters.

Homework: Please continue to practise writing these letters at home. A little bit of practice each day will really help to develop confidence with letter formation and reinforce the sounds we have been learning. Below are links for RWI videos.

Story of the Week

Our story this week has been Mesha Makes Friends. We have enjoyed exploring the story together and talking about friendship, getting to know others and what makes a good friend.

The children have enjoyed sharing their own ideas and experiences of making friends, as well as thinking about how we can be kind, caring and respectful towards others.

Vocabulary of the Week

This week we have been learning and using some new vocabulary:

• Amazing – something that is wonderful or very impressive.
• Unpredictable – something that we cannot know or guess will happen next.
• Ruin – to spoil or damage something.

We have been encouraging the children to use these words in their conversations and when discussing our story and learning.

Maths

This week we introduced our Maths Meeting. Each day, we have been talking about the days of the week, the months of the year and the daily weather.

We are beginning to develop our understanding of routines and the passage of time, while also noticing and talking about changes in the weather around us.

PSED 

This week in PSED, we have been exploring our feelings through Zones of Regulation. The children have been thinking about how they are feeling and beginning to recognise that our emotions can change throughout the day.

We have talked about different feelings and explored ways that we can recognise and manage our emotions. The children have been encouraged to talk about their feelings and think about strategies that might help them when they are experiencing big emotions.

RE 

In RE, we have been thinking about our families and what makes each of us special.

We talked about how families can be different and that every family is special and important. The children enjoyed drawing pictures of their families and talking about the people who are important to them.

We also explored the idea that God loves each one of us and that we are special in God's eyes. The children shared their own thoughts and ideas about what makes them special and enjoyed celebrating the wonderful qualities that make each person unique.

Our Topic – All About Us

We are continuing to learn more about each other and what makes us special and unique.

This week, we talked about what we might like to be when we grow up. The children shared some wonderful ideas about their hopes and dreams for the future and enjoyed listening to what their friends would like to be too.

It has been lovely to see the children becoming more confident in sharing their ideas, talking about themselves and getting to know their new friends.
