This Week in Reception
We have had a busy week in Reception, exploring autumn, talking about our families and developing our learning together.
Maths – Subitising
This week, we have been practising subitising—recognising how many objects we can see without counting each one. This helps children develop their understanding of numbers. At home, you could look at the dots on a dice and ask, “How many can you see?”
PSED – Our Rules
We have been exploring our classroom rules and discussing how they help keep everyone safe and happy. We have talked about listening, being kind, looking after our resources and taking turns.
Topic – Autumn
Our autumn walk gave us an opportunity to look closely at the changes happening around us. We explored signs of autumn and talked about what we noticed in the natural world.
Literacy – Our Families
We have been talking about our families and decorating our family photographs. This gave children an opportunity to share who is special to them and explore how families can be similar and different.
Storytelling-Peace at Last
We continued exploring our story, Peace at Last. The children enjoyed joining in with the storytelling, recalling key events and using repeated phrases from the story. We also explored some new vocabulary from the text, including believe, uncomfortable and peeped. We talked about what each word means and encouraged the children to use the words when discussing and retelling the story.
RE – Thanking God for Creation
In RE, we have been thinking about the wonderful world God created and giving thanks for creation. We discussed the things in nature that we are grateful for and how we can help care for our world.
Nature School – How Are Animals Adapting?
At Nature School, we explored how animals adapt as autumn arrives and the weather changes. We talked about how they prepare for the colder months, including finding food and shelter.

Home Learning
This week’s homework is linked to the sounds covered in your child’s phonics group. Please use the video links above to support practice at home as well as the letter formation sheets sent home . Short, regular practice helps children build confidence in recognising and saying their sounds.
Thank you for your continued support!
